Heather W. Sandberg, DPM, originally set out to become a physical therapist while working as an athletic trainer in college. However, after shadowing local podiatrists and seeing the depth of care they provided, she discovered her passion for podiatry. That decision led to a lifelong career dedicated to helping patients maintain mobility and improve their quality of life.
Dr. Sandberg is a board-certified podiatric physician and surgeon with expertise in all aspects of podiatric medicine and surgery. She has a particular passion for wound care and diabetic limb salvage, having spent 17 years treating complex wounds at St. Mary’s Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center. A Brooklyn native, she has proudly called Knoxville home for 27 years and is the original founder, partner, and owner of what is now Volunteer Podiatry.
Outside of work, Dr. Sandberg and her husband, David, have been married for 27 years and love spending time with their three children, Jordan, Jason, and Andrew, who are all pursuing academics and athletics at the high school and collegiate levels. When they’re not cheering on their kids at sporting events, the Sandbergs enjoy traveling as a family and cooking together.
